Borduria - air defence
A last game to mark the end of the summer season - with some new 'Inter War' air campaign rules being tested out.
The aim - for the Syldavian Martin Bomber to cross the canal and breach the defences...but the prophesy of Mr Baldwin that 'the bomber will always get through' did not prove to be true. The Bordurian air defence being more than a match for the hand wringing, liberal Syldavian cronies of the western powers.
It all proved to be fun, but very difficult indeed...or to quote Mr Wells;
Once the command of the air is obtained by one of the contended armies, the war must become a conflict between a seeing host and one that is blind.
— H. G. Wells, Anticipations of the Reaction of Mechanical and Scientific Progress Upon Human Life, 1902

Tractor Factory battle - last phase
The aggressive Black/Silver counter attack was blunted in the rain - with a sharp
struggle around the factory as dusk fell - but Green/Red Star in control and
forcing B/S over the canal.
G/RS lost 1 x heavy tank, 1 x light and 1 x truck destroyed - others damaged
1 x fighter destroyed
B/S lost 2 x heavy tank, 2 x light 1 x tankette, 1 x AT gun and truck
2 x bombers + 1 x fighter destroyed
The G/RS armoured train again suffered due to damaged track - but provided long range fire support throughout.
The Martin Bomber - above - appears towards the end of the game to attack the railway bridge.
Tractor Factory - phase 2
With Army Green/RedStar seizing the Tractor Factory the battle became a series of desperate tank and infantry attacks across the canal line.
A
Army Black/Silver pushed forward - with both sides using air support - leading to G/RS getting the upper hand as their heavy tank regiment arrived on the flank.
Inter War Battle
The scenario was an encounter battle between Army Black/Silver (Bordurian/Finns/Germans) against army Green/Red Star (Syldavians/Soviet) types - with an Eastern Front feel.
The object - hold the tractor works.
B/S
11 tanks,
2 x med arty
2 x lt arty
100+ infantry
sappers/sigs
1 x med bomber
2 x dive bomber
1 v recce
1 x fighter
G/RS
10 tanks
2 x med arty
2 x lt arty
1 x armd train
10 cavalry
90 infantry
sigs
1 x med bomber
1 x recce
2 x fighter
It turned out to be a fast flowing game - with G/RS gaining an early air superiority and seizing the Tractor factory with tankettes and cavalry...

Laying out the battlefield
In the finest 'summer game' tradition it was time for Jnr. and I set up the battlefield for the Borduria - Syldavia clash.

The hastily constructed tractor factory is the objective.

It is a very wet summer in the Balkans...

By some very strange quirk of fate I am playing the evil, liberal, hand wringing, wet and decadent Syldavians!
